Construction features

Ceramic wire for windings, electric motors, transformers designed for temperatures of 500 °C

Product description
  • CERAFIL®, a common thread with ceramic insulation for very high temperatures, is the result of many years of research. Our engineering team has succeeded in developing an innovative technology capable of laying a ceramic layer on a conductor wire with a very small diameter (from 0.07mm).
  • This miniaturised high-temperature wire is designed for highly reliable windings and coils, as it can withstand thermal overloads (mechanical heating, short-circuits, thermal hazard locations, ...).
  • Thanks to its exceptional qualities - small size, extremely light weight, resistance to extreme temperatures,CERAFIL® cable is used in numerous high-tech applications and research projects in high-risk sectors, such as the’aeronautics, l’aerospace, the nuclear sector. For example:
    • special windings in low-voltage motors or sensors and used in extreme conditions (+500 °C)
    • safety elements intervening in the event of a thermal accident
    • temperature measurement in confined spaces and under significant heat sources
Composition of CERAFIL® cable
  • Conductor: Copper/Nickel substrate - diameter range: 0.07 mm to 1 mm.
  • Insulation: Ceramic - thickness 5 to 20 µm.
Thermal characteristics
  • Continuous service temperature: -90°C to +500°C
  • Peak temperature: +800°C for 240 hours; +1000°C
Electrical characteristics
  • Rated voltage: 150 V for one minute
  • Maximum resistance (ρ) at 20°C: 3 µΩ.cm
  • Maximum resistance (ρ) as a function of temperature: Linear evolution/temperature ρ(t)= ρ(20°C) + 0.0109*t
  • Maximum resistance (ρ) at 500°C:
    • 8.45 µΩ.cm initially
    • 8.70 µΩ.cm after 3000 hours
    • 9.04 µΩ.cm after 20000 hours
  • Insulation resistance:
    • 75000 MΩ.cm at 25°C
    • 22 MΩ.cm at 800°C
Mechanical characteristics
  • Minimum bending radius: 5 x cable outer diameter
  • Breaking load: 23.9 daN/mm2
Fire resistance
  • Totally non-combustible cableFor temperatures >1000°C, CERAFIL® may melt, but cannot ignite.

  • Chemical resistanceInert to customary and organic chemical solvents.
  • Hydrophilmoisture-sensitive product.
Radiation resistance
  • Withstands prolonged exposure to neutrons and gamma rays without changes to the mechanical seal of the insulation. Consult us for more information.
Vacuum resistance
  • No outgassing
